Welcome to the official web site of the Black Country Cardiovascular Network. The Network, along with the whole NHS is under a system of review and will need to go through a period of transition and change over the next 6 – 12 months. Although the future configuration of clinical networks is not yet known, it is clear that national NHS leaders believe they have a future role in the new NHS landscape. Sir David Nicholson’s letter in April 2011 to CEOs and GP Pathfinder Consortia Leads stated:
“There is a central role for networks in the new system as the place where clinicians from different sectors come together to improve the quality of care across integrated pathways. So I want to put these networks at the heart of our efforts to renew and strengthen engagement.”
Sir David Nicholson
This message was reinforced by Professor Steve Field in the Future Forum – a report on the proposed changes to the NHS in which he states:
“ …….. there should be a strong role for clinical and professional networks in the new system and multi‐speciality clinical senates should be established to provide strategic advice to local commissioning consortia, health and wellbeing boards and the NHS Commissioning Board. “
Professor Steve Field
The Network will continue to work with its partners through the period of change, providing specialist support to commissioners and health care providers, to help ensure the continued development of heart and stroke services. We will also continue our approach of working with our strong and enthusiastic patient and carer groups, to make sure their Voice is not only heard, but is seen to be a central theme in any developments that are made to these services.
Please get in touch if you wish find out more about the Network and how it supports heart and stroke services across the Black Country areas of Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
